Dearest Alice,
I found this address and was ecstatic. My friends and I were surfing in English class and found this very interesting column. I would like to ask you about corns between the toes. My cousin has these monumental corns which have kept her from her job. Although my cousin and I are not really close, I'm sure she would be happy to accept your advice. I hope you will answer my question. Thank you. Corny

Dear Corny, A corn, a callus found on the toe, is an area of thickened skin generally resulting from the pressure from a tight-fitting shoe. Corns commonly affect people with high foot arches, as the arch will increase the pressure on the tips of the toes when a person walks. If you begin to develop a corn, the immediate solution is to wear more comfortable shoes. You can also place a corn pad (available at drugstores) on the corn to ease any pressure until the corn gradually disappears. If this method is unsuccessful and the corn is persistent, then it is best to see a podiatrist who can pare away the corn in the office.
